Ryan Kauffman
Saxophone (tenor/
soprano) and Flute.
Saxophonist Ryan Kauffman
is very enthusiastic about his part in Jazz Speak. It is a
prime opportunity to explore what music we can make with one
another. The young tenor/soprano player also keeps a very
active schedule as a soloist and private teacher throughout
southeastern Pennsylvania.
His influences range from
those rooted in the bebop and post-bop eras (Pres, Bird, Trane,
Sonny, etc.) to the progressive forefront of todays improvised
music. (Liebman, Lovano, Shorter, Garzone)
Of the dynamics involved
with working in a group like Jazz Speak, Kauffman says, this
has been really exciting. Everyones ears were open from the
beginning, and so we were able to start exploring the music together
almost at the outset.
As a player, Kauffman
finds himself seeking to keep his own ears open and press ahead as a
serious student of the music. There is always more to learn.
You continue to press on and keep yourself open to things . . . to
personal growth. Gathering from apparently disparate sources is an
important process in the search for what you want to say. |
