Mike
Wittrien - Bass
Describes
his philosophy and approach to performing as working to achieve
complete interplay between all instruments reaching that elusive
psychic connection that heightens everyone's level of playing.
Holding
a BA in Music from Lebanon Valley College, he has studied
extensively with Jim Miller.
He
pulls from a wide and varied range of influences from American
Football, Bjork and Gwar to Debussy, Mahler and Stravinsky to
Coltrane, Bill Evans, Miles Davis and Ornette Coleman.
His
bass influences are equally wide but not limited to Paul Chambers,
Jimmy Garrison, Ray Brown, Eddie Gomez, Charlie Haden and most
recently Scott Lafaro.
Mike
has appeared with Jimmy Woods, Clyde Lucas, Katie Rudolph, Bob
Ferguson and in keeping with his love of classical performance is in
the audition process with the York Symphony to heighten his large
ensemble playing experience.
